Healey (BN1-223926) 1955

Peter :

G'day Didier

Just found your great website - awesome job on your restoration!

Here are some photos of my 2 BN1s - both a bit different! The red car (BN1-222490) was rebodied in Melbourne in the mid-1960s.

Didier :

Hello Peter & Veronica, magnifique auto !!

Welcome.

Peter :

The original (black with red interior) was written off in an accident in 1956. The car was first fitted with an Ausca fibreglass body (black and white photo) and used as a race car for 10 years.

Very nice photo

Peter :

The aluminium coupe body was built be Sid Ward (it's known as the Ward Special) It uses Toyota Crown headlights, door handles and electric windows, and a Singer (Humber in Australia) Vogue windscreen.

The green and white car (BN1-223926) was built 2 weeks after the other one in February 1955. It was originally Healey blue with blue interior.

It too was written off in an accident and spent many years abandoned in the open ("sad case" photo) until retrieved by the previous owner. Most of the running gear had been removed by then, so he fitted a Holden (Australian General Motors) V6 motor (165bhp) and automatic gearbox.

I bought it part restored and got it on the road in March 2010. The wheels are 100/6 centres with wider rims. The knock-ons are cosmetic only. OK not original but at least it's back on the road!

Cheers
